Summary In English
This is the story of a tailor named Kalu and his friend Appu, an elephant. Kalu used to make colourful pants and shirts for children. Whenever Appu came to his shop he always used to give him something to eat. One day Kalu pricked a needle in Appu’s trunk playfully. Appu went away in anger. He wants to teach the lesson to Kalu. Two days later, he filled his trunk with water and splashed it every where in Kalu’s shop and all the new clothes became wet. Kalu accepted his fault and learned the lesson as they both became friends again.

यह कालू नामक एक दर्जी तथा उसके दोस्त अप्पू हाथी की कहानी है। कालू बच्चों के लिए रंग-बिरंगे पैंट्स तथा शर्ट्स बनाता था। जब कभी अप्पू उसकी दुकान पर आता, वह हमेशा उसे कुछ खाने के लिए दा था। एक दिन कालू ने मजाक से एक पिन अप्पू की सैंड में चुभा दिया। अप्पू क्रुद्ध होकर चला गया। उसने कालू को इसका सबक सिखाना चाहा। दो दिनों के बाद अप्पू अपनी सैंड में पानी भरकर आया तथा उसने का है दुकान पर पूरा पानी उड़ेल दिया। इससे दुकान पर रखे सारे कपड़े भीग गए। कालू को अपनी गलती का अहसास हो गया। बाद में कालू और अप्पू पुनः दोस्त बन गए।
Hindi Translation Of The Poem
1. Kalu, the tailor, had a shop near
the river. He made colourful pants
and shirts for children. Appu, the
elephant, was his friend. Appu came
to his shop everyday. Kalu gave him
many nice things to eat.
1. एक नदी के पास कालू दर्जी की एक दुकान थी।
वह बच्चों के लिए रंग-बिरंगे पेंट्स-शर्टस बनाता
था। अप्पू नामक एक हाथी उसका दोस्त था। अप्पू
प्रत्येक दिन उसकी दुकान पर आता था। कालू उसे
अच्छी-अच्छी चीजें खाने को देता था।
Word-Meanings: Tailor (टेलर) – a person who stitches clothes,दर्ज़ों। Shop (शॉप) – from where one can buy things, दुकान। Shirts (शर्ट्स) – upper wears with buttons and collar, कमीज़ों.
2. One day Kalu wanted to play a trick.
He did not give Appu anything to
eat. He took out his needle instead
and pricked Appu’s trunk. Appu ran
away in pain.
2. एक दिन कालू को एक शरारत सूझी। उसने
अप्पू को कुछ भी खाने को नहीं दिया। उसने
एक सूई अप्पू की सैंड में चुभा दी। अप्पू दर्द
से कराहता हुआ वहाँ से भाग गया।
Word-Meanings: Trick (ट्रिक)-a mischief, शरारत। Needle (नीडल)-a small pointed object used to stitch clothes, सूई। Pricked (प्रिक्ड)-pressed into, चुभा दिया। Trunk (ट्रंक)long nose of elephant, सँड़।
3. Two days later Appu came down to
the river and filled his trunk with
water. He reached Kalu’s shop and
threw water everywhere. All the new
clothes became wet.
3. दो दिनों के बाद अप्पू नदी के पास आया और
उसने अपनी सँड को पानी से भर लिया। वह
कालू की दुकान पर पहुँचा और पानी चारों तरफ़
उड़ेल दिया। सभी नये कपड़े भीग गए।
Word-Meanings: Threw (थ्रू) – shot away, फ्रंक दिया। Wet (वेट) – covered with water,गीला।
4. Appu shook his trunk and said “An
elephant never forgets.” Kalu said, “I
am sorry, Appu. Let’s be friends again.”
Kalu and Appu again became good
friends.
4. अप्पू ने अपनी सैंड को हिलाया और कहा,-“एक
हाथी कभी भी नहीं भूलता।” कालू बोला,-“मैं
क्षमा चाहता हूँ, अप्पू। चलो दुबारा दोस्त बन जाते
हैं।” कालू तथा अप्पू फिर से एक अच्छे दोस्त
बन गए।
Word-Meanings: Shock (शुक) moved हिलाया। Forget (फ़ॉरगेट) – which cannot be remembered, भूलना।

Make a Friendship-band
- What you need:
- paper
- scissors
- glue
- ribbon
- Material to decorate (sequins, beads, toffees, glitter, etc.)
- Cut a strip of ribbon colour of your choice). Cut its length to make a wrist band.
- Draw a marigold flower on the paper and cut it out.
- Decorate the marigold flower with glitter, sequins or whatever you like.
- Continue to make flowers until you have the number you wish to put on the ribbon.
- Glue the flowers to the ribbon strip.
- Let it lie flat until the glue becomes dry.
